About The Client

Industry: Charities and NPOs, Social Impact

Employ to Empower supports residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside community by providing access to development and entrepreneurial resources. Resources include affordable micro-loans and business mentorship, with the goal of having a long-term impact on our members’ personal and economic well being.

They also actively advocate for creating positive social change in the Downtown Eastside. With a strong focus on getting donor support and finding volunteers, we went to work with the the team to rethink how the brand itself can be used to create dialogue and to show how they can represent themselves.

Step One

Branding + Digital Workshop

We sat down with the team to better understand the current pain points they were solving with business and worked on the internal mission and vision. We did this by facilitating a 3 hour branding and digital workshop with the full Employ To Empower team. The goal of this process was to make sure we took into account all stakeholders feedback and to brand the charity to be forward looking towards the future.

Step Two

The Logo + Brand Assets

Being a charitable organization with multiple community supporters, the logo is an important part of the charity's brand, and makes a significant impact on a company's public perception. Being an unconventional charity, the team wanted a logo and colours that were different from the traditional type form logos and brand colours. To build this, we explored their services and learned that a large part of the organizations mission was to listen and to make sure entrepreneurs in the DTES felt they were heard and could be quoted. As a result, we created a logo that stemmed from quotations (" ") to represent Employ To Empower visually and created colour tones that let supporters know they were bold and different.

Step Three

The Digital Platform

We created a new platform where not only could donors learn more about Employ To Empower and what makes them different from the rest but also made it accessible for DTES residents to find information and easily contact for support without having to go through the hassle of multiple touch-points.
